Both the wooden mask sculpture and the colorful artistic painting – specialties of the Minas Gerais-based workshop in Prados-MG – exhibit characteristics intrinsic to the cultures of different African ethnic groups, highlighting the aesthetics of the ritualistic accessory as a distinctive element. By elevating a mask on a fixed metal stand, the Minas Gerais artisans emphasize the artistic ensemble of the wooden artwork in interior decoration.
The piece combines a classic triad of colors from African art to simulate ethnic designs and scarification, authentically personalizing the decorative mask.
