INDIGENOUS WALL DECORATION IN CHUNGA FIBER - PANAMA
This textile wall sculpture is a profound artistic manifestation of the Emberá-Wounaan ethnicity, hand-woven in the tropical forests of Panama. Made with the resistant Chunga palm fiber, the piece stands out for the high density of its weave, the result of a refined ancestral technique passed down through generations. Using exclusively organic pigments extracted from native plants, barks, and fruits, the artisans bring to life animal silhouettes rich in geometric patterns and striking chromatic contrasts.
The collection features the representation of two animals of great symbolic value in indigenous cosmology: the Turtle model, which evokes patience, longevity, and connection with water, and the Butterfly model, which translates transformation, lightness, and the ephemeral nature of nature. With a subtle and expressive three-dimensional form, these decorations transcend common ornaments, acting as true ethnic works of art to frame living rooms, offices, or headboards that value collecting and cultural sustainability.
