EMBERÁ-WOUNAAN ETHNIC WALL BASKETRY - PANAMA

This basketry piece is a three-dimensional textile work of art, rich in ancestry and symbolism, handwoven by women of the Emberá-Wounaan ethnic group in Panama. Made from the fine fiber of the Chunga palm, the piece stands out for its extremely dense and firm weave, a traditional technique internationally recognized for its high level of complexity and refinement. Using entirely organic pigments extracted from plants and fruits of the tropical forest, the artisans bring to life graphic patterns that celebrate native fauna and the cosmology of their indigenous culture.

The collection features two variants inspired by striking birds of American biodiversity: the Canindé model, which showcases subtle geometric patterns and colors that evoke the majesty of macaws, and the Mutum model, which displays sober and elegant patterns inspired by the plumage and stateliness of this large bird. With a slightly concave shape, these baskets transcend utilitarian use and function as decorative wall plates or masks, perfect for composing ethnic art galleries, niches, and living rooms that value collecting and rustic sophistication.
