INDIGENOUS BASKETRY FROM CHUNGA FIBER — EMBERÁ-WOUNAAN | PANAMA

This handcrafted basketry platter is a textile work of art rich in ancestry, made by women of the Emberá-Wounaan ethnic group in Panama. The piece is produced from the fiber of the Chunga palm, a raw material highly valued for its flexibility and resistance, which allows for the creation of incredibly dense, firm, and sophisticated weaves. With entirely organic dyeing derived from plants, roots, and fruits of the tropical forest, the plate displays a richness of colors and contrasts that celebrate the biodiversity and cosmology of its original culture.

The collection comes in two models inspired by fauna and flora: the Butterfly pattern, which stylizes the movement and lightness of the insect's wings in ritual geometric graphics, and the Sunflower pattern, which radiates vibrant petals from the center of the piece. With a 25cm diameter and shallow shape, this basketry transcends utilitarian function, being perfect for use as a decorative wall plate, a centerpiece, or in compositions of niches and shelves aimed at high-end ethnic decor and collecting mystical art.
