Bororó Ethnicity Wooden Mask

CR583-62

Guided by the cultural and ritual richness of the Brazilian indigenous Bororó ethnic group, the talented artisans from Minas Gerais at the Curral da Cor atelier developed this decorative wooden mask that portrays the aesthetic characteristics of the Bororó Indians. The name, which in the native language means “village courtyard”, refers to the circular layout of the hollows that make the courtyard the center of the village. The strong connection with rituals is another aspect that influences the configuration of the space and the importance of the name.

Ritualistic ceremonies such as those of passage (nomination, initiation and funeral) are highly valued in the indigenous culture of this ethnic group in Brazil. In them, the Indians are adorned with body paint and facial adornments of natural origin, such as wood and feathers. These and other peculiarities of the tribe are highlighted in the indigenous mask from the pradense atelier, which has a fixed raised base to give the piece more evidence in the interior decoration.
