This cement artwork, created by Balinese artisans, depicts Garuda, also known in Hinduism as the "King of Birds." Garuda is a mythological figure from Hindu culture with the features of an eagle and human characteristics. He is the vehicle (vahana) of Vishnu and represents birth and the sky.
This character plays the role of the enemy of all snakes, symbolic of death and the underworld... Interestingly, Garuda is the national emblem of Thailand and Indonesia.
