The etymology of the word Archangel comes from the composition of the Greek words “àrchein” and “ànghelos” which mean, respectively, commander and messenger, showing the hierarchical position of this angel in command and in the transmission of the divine message to other angels. Miguel, in turn, derives from the Hebrew “mī kāʼēl”, which means “who is like God”. Alongside the army of heaven (Angelic Hosts) this celestial warrior commands all battles in order to protect God and his creations as well as mankind. The figure of Archangel Michael has great devotion in Christianity, Judaism and Islam, and is celebrated on September 29 alongside the other archangels: Gabriel and Raphael.
